Problem

The management problem that I will be facing this semester is the group project and group presentation. From my previous experience that I always have difficulties work with the classmates. Probably is either because I do not have confidence to put my ideas into words and explain it to the group or I am afraid that my idea is not good enough to help the group to achieve a higher grade. This is the reason why I only speak out when it is necessary, and others probably think I am not a good group member. Therefore, this is the management problem that I have before and it is also a problem that I will be facing in this semester.
Even though I improved a lot by giving many group project and presentation in previous years, but this problem still bothers me at this point. Maybe one day I will solve this problem and will not be afraid the group project and presentation anymore.

Hi Jason. I think that what you are facing are often issues many of us have. Project presentations cause lots of paranoia in peoples minds such as "omg why are they staring at me? Look away! Do they don’t like what I’m saying? Do they understand what I’m saying? Do I have something on my face?" Even I still get scared at presenting to a group of people I do not know.
But, what you can do is try to brush those thoughts aside and focus on the objective to give an informative speech. It's just like Speech Communication class. And if that still doesn’t help, prepare your presentation and rehearse it in front of your friends. I tend to be relieved of at least some of my fears after having a playful and also serious rehearsal presentation with my friends. I hope this helps. Later

Hey Jason,

I agree with you, group works are really hard. But I think the most difficult part is to make sure everyone shows up in the meeting, and do their works.

I think you're a really responsible partner. I worked with you before (TSA :P) and I think you did really excellent job on everything we expected from you. So, don't think that others will feel like you're not a good group member. For me, you're an excellent member ;)

I'm not good at expressing myself either. And I believe no one is made perfectly. Therefore, you might not good at one thing but you might good at another. However, the difference between you and the the other is, they are taking their steps forward to learn and improve their weakness. So, tell yourself, you are as good as the others, and your ideas are valuable as the others. Let's work together!~ Build up our confidence! and speak in class!~ Go, Jason!~ GO!~ GO!~ GO!~

I think I have the same problem every semester too, that's why I don't like group project and presentation. Usually it is about all the members in the group. If one of the member is not working, then the whole group will just broke. So, I don't think it's only your problem, others also. But of course, if you know how to manage the whole group, that will be work out a lot easier.

I understand where you're coming from to a certain extent because I was shy and introverted when I first moved to NY. But now I'm probably the group member who says too much. This is basically not something which is going to change over night you have to keep working at it. I would strongly suggest for you to join some sort of group related extra curricular activity because I think that's how I learned how to work better in groups. Good luck! I hope this is useful.
